■苦境に立つWEリーグ
6月21日には、日本初の女子サッカーのプロリーグであるWEリーグの高田春奈チェアが、「女子ワールドカップの国内テレビ中継を目指してクラウドファンディングで資金を募る」と語ったという。
「目標額や開始時期は後日発表する」とのことだったが、詳細はまだ発表されていない。
1試合平均5000人の観客動員を目標に発足したWEリーグだが、2022/23シーズンの動員数は平均1401人に留まった。
プロリーグ、プロクラブとしての経営が成り立つとは思えない数字と言わざるを得ない。
■無謀なクラウドファンディング
代表チームの活躍で一般ファンの目を向けることができれば、WEリーグの観客動員が上向く可能性は大きい。
だが、代表チームがどんなに頑張っても、テレビ放映、とくに地上波での放映がないと、とくに女子サッカーに関心を持つ層以外にアピールすることができなくなってしまう。
WEリーグが「クラウドファンディングによってテレビ放映を実現したい」と考えるのは当然と言えば当然のことだ。
だが、「手遅れ」としか言いようがない。大会開幕まで1か月を切っているのだ。しかも、必要な資金は100万円程度ではない。10億円単位でのせめぎ合いが行われているのである。
今からクラウドファンディングを立ち上げて解決できる問題ではないだろう。
■他人事の対応をするJFA
日本サッカー協会（JFA）は、どうして動かない（動かなかった）のだろうか?
そもそも、JFAの田嶋幸三会長は女子サッカーの振興を重要課題として掲げていたはずだ。WEリーグの発足についても、田嶋会長は積極的だったと聞く。
そして、JFAはWEリーグの発足と同時に、2023年の（つまり、今回の）女子ワールドカップの日本開催を目指していた。
そして、日本は最終段階でのFIFAからの評価では上位に位置していたにもかかわらず、アジア・サッカー連盟（AFC）がオーストラリア・ニュージーランド共同開催支持に傾いたため、2020年6月の最終投票直前に辞退に追い込まれてしまった。
「2021年の東京オリンピック開催から時間が経っていないこと」などが理由だったが、東京大会が2020年に開催されることは事前にわかっていながら、当初は2019年大会開催を計画し、後に2023年大会に正式立候補したのだ。
実際には、招致争いでの票固めに失敗したことが撤退の本当の原因だった。
初のプロリーグ（WEリーグ）の発足。そして、ワールドカップの開催。この2つを両輪のようにして、JFAは女子サッカーの振興を目指す目論見だったのだろうが、ワールドカップ開催は実現できず、そしてWEリーグの観客動員は低迷を続けている。
