国指定の難病「黄色じん帯骨化症」に対する新たな手術が海外の医学誌に発表され、その名前がこの手術を受けて今シーズン復帰したプロ野球、DeNAの三嶋一輝投手にちなんで、「MISHIMA手術」と命名されたことが分かりました。
DeNAの三嶋選手に手術を行ったのは、最小侵襲脊椎治療学会の石井賢理事長などのグループです。
「黄色じん帯骨化症」は背骨付近のじん帯が骨化し神経を圧迫する難病で、グループによると新しい手術は背骨に開けた直径1センチ程度の穴から器具を差し込み、3次元化した画像を使って赤外線で手術器具の位置などを確認しながら行うということです。
今回、三嶋投手が去年8月に受けた手術が、初めての症例としてスイスの医学誌に発表され、三嶋投手にちなんで手術の別名が「MISHIMA手術」と命名されたことが分かりました。
三嶋投手は今シーズン復帰しここまでリリーフとして25試合に登板して、3勝1敗、防御率は3.98とチームの勝利に貢献しています。
三嶋投手を執刀した医師の石井理事長は「正常な組織を極力残して骨化した部分をピンポイントで取ることができる体への負担が少ない手術だ。体をひねる動きの多いアスリートにとっては治療のための新たなオプションができたと思う」と話しています。
新たな「MISHIMA手術」とは
研究グループが発表した新たな手術「MISHIMA手術（＝マイクロウインドウ骨化切除術）」は「黄色じん帯骨化症」によって骨化した患部を取り除くために行われます。
「黄色じん帯骨化症」は背骨付近のじん帯が硬くなり神経を圧迫する国指定の難病で、下半身のしびれなどが生じて、病状が進むと排せつ障害や歩行困難となる患者もいます。
一般的に骨化した黄色じん帯を取り除くためには、背骨の後ろの部分とともに切除しますが、切除することによって背骨が不安定になるほか、安定させるためにネジで固定すると背骨の可動域を狭めてしまうという課題がありました。
新たに開発された手術は背骨に1センチ程度の穴を開け、手術中に撮影したCTなどの画像をコンピュータ上で3次元にし、赤外線を使って手術器具などがどこの位置にあるのか確認しながら進めます。
研究グループでは、小さな穴を開けて顕微鏡や内視鏡を使って骨化した患部だけをドリルで削るため、患者への負担を減らすことができるとしています。
三嶋投手「患者さんの光明になれば」
新たな手術が自身の名前にちなんだものになったDeNAの三嶋一輝投手は、球団を通じて「手術前は歩行困難、神経痛、頻尿障害、体調不良でどんな治療やマッサージを受けても全く改善される事はなく、周りにもわかってもらう事が難しく、1人で悩み考える毎日でした。今回の手術を受けて、症状は改善されて健康に過ごすことができています」とコメントしています。
そして、「この手術が広まっていき、黄色靱帯骨化症の患者さんの光明になればいいと思います。このつらさはなった人にしかわからないと思いますし、人によって痛さ、脱力、しびれなど症状は様々で、もっとつらい方、苦しんでる方々がいると思います。そんな毎日闘っている方々に、プロ野球選手として戦っている姿を見てもらい、少しでも、何かの力になれればいいなと思っています」と話し気持ちを新たにしていました。
