【7月11 AFP】米国体操連盟（USA Gymnastics）の元チーム医師で、数百人に上る女子選手への性的虐待で服役中のラリー・ナサール（Larry Nassar）受刑者（59）が、他の受刑者に複数回刺された。ナサール受刑者が服役している刑務所の責任者が10日に明らかにした。
米フロリダ州サムタービル（Sumterville）にある連邦刑務所の責任者によると、ナサール受刑者は9日に首を2回、胸部を6回、背中を2回刺された。最後に受けた報告によれば、容体は安定しているという。
米連邦刑務所局（BOP）は、ナサール受刑者がなぜ襲われたのかは「プライバシー」を理由に公表を控えたが、同刑務所で「受刑者1人」が襲撃され、地元の病院に搬送されたと説明し、現在内部調査が行われていると明かした。
BOPによると、ナサール受刑者が服役中の刑務所は厳重な警備が敷かれており、現在1214人の男性受刑者を収容している。しかし、前述の責任者の話では、同刑務所は「深刻な人員危機」に陥っているという。
ナサール受刑者は、連盟やミシガン州立大学（Michigan State University）で20年以上にわたり勤務していた際、女子選手らに性的暴行を加えた。2017年から18年に行われた裁判で有罪を認め、最長175年の禁錮刑を言い渡された。
被害者には五輪金メダリストのシモーネ・バイルス（Simone Biles）やアレクサンドラ・レイズマン（Alexandra Raisman）氏、マッケイラ・マロニー（McKayla Maroney）氏らも含まれている。(c)AFP
