── 「日立 世界・ふしぎ発見！」のミステリーハンターとして活躍されましたが、きっかけはなんでしたか。
望月さん：学生時代からモデル事務所の方にお声がけいただいていたのですが、あまり興味がなくて。自分はそういうタイプではないと思っていましたし、親も賛成ではなかったので短大卒業後は自動車会社で契約社員として働きました。特にしたいこともなかったので、1年働いて結婚して、家庭に入りたいと思っていました。
でもその事務所の方から「ふしぎ発見！のオーディションがあるから行かないか」とお誘いを受けて。私、番組が大好きだったんです。東京に行けるし、友達にも会えると思って記念受験の気持ちで受けました。
── オーディションはどんな内容だったんでしょう。
望月さん：原稿を読むテストなどがあったと思いますが、ど素人だったので正直、あまり内容も覚えていなくて。「これは絶対落ちたな」と思ったんですが、たまたま通りました。そのあと坂東英二さんの個人事務所に所属しました。
── ミステリーハンター時代を振り返ってみていかがですか。
望月さん：仕事で海外に行くのも初めてのことでしたし、どれも新しい経験だったのですが、とにかく台本を覚えなくてはならなくて必死でした。今行ったらもう少し楽しめるかと思うんですが、カンペもいっさいなくて。
「それではここでクエスチョンです」のところで1分くらい出題のセリフがあるんですが、それもうしろでバスが通るタイミングでとか、ここまで話したら真っ直ぐ走っていく、とか。もう、頭がいっぱいでしたね。
── 確かに出題の部分はちょっと長く話している印象で、大変そうだなとは見ていて感じていました。
望月さん：喋りの仕事をするのが初めてで慣れていなかったのもあります。関西人なので関西弁が抜けないのも苦労しました。歴史の話が多いので数字がよく出てくるんですが、1から10まではよくても、桁が多くなるとどんどん関西弁のアクセントになってしまって。
でも、あるカメラマンさんから「暗記したらいいと思っているでしょ」と言われたことがあったんです。「話すと伝えるは違って、あなたたちの仕事は人に伝えることだから」と言っていただいて、「なるほど」とその時にようやく気がついて。私の仕事は、話すのではなく人に伝えることなんだと教えていただきました。
── 普段、経験できないこともされますよね。
望月さん：野茂選手にインタビューさせていただいたり、イルカと泳いだり。パプアニューギニアの村で、みんなで雑魚寝なんてこともありましたね。みんな寝袋で寝て、トイレに行く時は頭にサーチライトをつけて（笑）。
── サバイバルですね！
望月さん：基本的に日本からはカメラマン、ディレクター、AD、音声の方と私の5人で行って、現地のコーディネーターとドライバーがつきます。私はレポーターとして話す役割はありますが、それが終わったら照明を持ったり、カメラマンさんが川を渡るときにはカメラを受け取ったり。人数が少ないのでみんなで力を合わせていました。当時、1回のロケは12日間の日程で行っていました。
── ロケ以外の日は何をされていたんですか。
望月さん：芸能界というものをまったく知らなかったので、ロケに行かない日は坂東英二さんの関西での付き人をしていました。坂東さんの衣装を持ったり、車を運転したりもしていましたよ。付き人をしながら、番組でどういうふうにタレントが立ち振る舞って、スタッフがどう動いているかを学ばせていただきました。
── 出役をしながら、裏の仕事も。
望月さん：勉強になりましたね。当時、坂東さんは厳しくて、「俺がしようと思う前にしなきゃいけない」と気が利かないことをよく注意されました。タレントが集中できるようにするのが付いている人の仕事。周りの様子をよく見て、現場でコミュニケーションを取るように言われていました。2年間勉強させてもらいました。
