昭和13年、鈴子（趣里）は上京します。
そこで、ある人気作曲家（草彅剛）と出会い、
大きく運命が変わります。
鈴子（趣里）は、作曲家（草彅剛）の指導を受け、
“スウィングの女王”と呼ばれ人気歌手になっていきます。
しかし、戦争が始まると、
鈴子（趣里）が置かれた状況は一変します。
鈴子（趣里）の歌っていた歌は「敵性音楽」となり、
鈴子（趣里）の舞台での歌や踊りが
厳しく制限されてしまいます。
さらに、鈴子（趣里）の弟（黒崎煌代）は出征。
また、ちょうどその頃、
鈴子（趣里）の母（水川あさみ）も
病気で亡くなってしまいます。
不幸が重なり悩んでいた鈴子（趣里）の前に、
ある青年（水上恒司）が現れます。
ふたりは恋に落ち、結婚を誓いあいます。
しかし、青年（水上恒司）の家族（吉本興業）は大反対、
結婚はなかなか実現しません。
やがて戦争が終わり、
鈴子（趣里）は青年（水上恒司）の子を身ごもります。
ところが、青年（水上恒司）は病にかかってしまいます。
会えない日々が続き、そして、
臨月の鈴子（趣里）のもとに届いたのは
青年（水上恒司）の訃報でした。
死に目に会えず、結婚もできないままの別れ。
数日後、鈴子（趣里）は
ひとりで娘を出産しました。
鈴子（趣里）は、
ひとりで娘（未発表）を育てながら舞台で歌います。
そんな中、生まれたのが「東京ブギウギ」です。
明るく、飾らず、全身で歌う、鈴子（趣里）の真骨頂。
戦後の傷ついた日本に、その歌声が響き渡ります。
鈴子（趣里）の歌声に合わせて、
笑顔で歌い踊る人たちが日本中にあふれていきました。
鈴子（趣里）は“ブギの女王”と呼ばれるようになり、

一気に駆け上がっていきます――
