「加藤投手が実際に抑えたい場面で力を入れなくても打者を差し込んだりしてピンチを切り抜けるなど、成功体験が積み重なっていき、昨年途中から徐々に新たなピッチングが確立されていきました。昨年の与四球率も1.26と非常に素晴らしい数値を示していますからね。今年は開幕から、そういったピッチングができていることで、規定投球回をクリアした投手の最少与四球記録を樹立できたのだと思います」

加藤は今年4月5日に国内FA権を取得。スポーツ紙記者は「肩肘で大きな故障をしたことがないし、先発ローテーションで1年間通じて計算できる。推定年俸も1億3500万円と能力の高さを考えれば格安に感じる。FA権を行使することになれば、全球団が欲しいでしょう」と評価する。
