国際自動車連盟（ＦＩＡ）などは２０日、電気自動車レースの世界選手権、フォーミュラＥ（ＦＥ）シリーズの来季暫定日程を発表。東京が来年３月３０日決勝の第７戦に入った。
日本でＦＥが開催されるのは初。会場は江東区の東京ビッグサイト周辺の臨海地域で、ＦＩＡの世界選手権など本格的なレース（ラリーは別）が国内の公道で行われるのは初めてとなる。
東京都は昨年１０月４日に、シリーズを運営するフォーミュラＥオペレーションズとの間で、大会の東京・臨海地域での開催に向けた協定を締結していた。
小池百合子知事は「開催地として東京が正式に決定されたことを大変うれしく思います。東京都は、ＣＯ２を排出しない環境先進都市『ゼロエミッション東京』の実現に向け、ゼロエミッションビークルの普及拡大をはじめ、あらゆる分野で行動を加速させています」「大会は、ゼロエミッションビークルの普及に弾みをつけると同時に、東京の魅力を世界に発信し、国際的なプレゼンスを高める絶好の機会ともなります」とコメントした。
ＦＥは、Ｆ１などと同じ単座、屋根なし、タイヤむき出しのフォーミュラカーによる電気自動車のレースで、来季で発足から１０シーズン目。二酸化炭素を排出しないゼロエミッションや静粛さの環境適合性をアピールするために、多くは通常のサーキットではなく大都市の公道や公園で開催されている。現在は日産やジャガー、ポルシェなど１１チーム２２台で競われている。
来季は１月１３日決勝のメキシコ大会（メキシコ市）から７月２１日同のロンドン大会第２戦までの全１７戦が予定されている。
