スタジオジブリの代表取締役プロデューサー鈴木敏夫氏（74）が、1日放送の日本テレビ系音楽特番「THE MUSIC DAY 2023」（後3・00）にVTR出演し、同スタジオの作品とシンガー・ソングライター松任谷由実（69）との関わりについて明かした。
1989年公開の「魔女の宅急便」では、ユーミンの「ルージュの伝言」を主題歌に採用した。鈴木氏は「主題歌をどうするかって打ち合わせがあったんですね。その前夜に僕、ユーミンのコンサートに行くことになってた。で、次の日に打ち合わせでしょう？“主題歌どうする？”って言ったら…ユーミンですよね」と、前夜の行動からユーミンの名が浮かんだと告白。インタビュアーの俳優・風間俊介も「頭の中、流れてますからね」と納得していた。
鈴木氏は、数あるユーミンの名曲の中から、「ルージュの伝言」を選んだ理由も説明した。「あの映画そのものがそうだったんだけど、ある時代を懐かしんでるとか、そういうのがいろいろあるから、『ルージュの伝言』。あれは、それですよね」。作品のイメージにピッタリだったという。
2013年の「風立ちぬ」でも、荒井由実時代の名曲「ひこうき雲」が主題歌に使われた。鈴木氏はユーミンとイベントで共演した際、「ある映画を作ってましてね。『ひこうき雲』、使ったらどうなのかなって」と、観客を前に公開オファー。ユーミンは「やった！鳥肌立ちました、今」と、その場で快諾したという。
